Are You Actually ND Affirming?

The term "neurodiversity affirming" has become such a buzzword.

Therapists are claiming that they are providing neurodiversity affirming care.

And maybe that is you…

But are you actually ND Affirming?

There is a difference between holding a belief and utilizing an approach.

In order to be truly neurodiversity affirming you need to make sure that not only is this a belief that you hold but it’s also something you practice in your everyday life.

There may be reasons why you believe these principles but feel as if you can’t implement them due to your work setting, the current systems in place, etc.

But in order to be truly neurodiversity, we need to not just talk the talk but walk the walk as well.

So are you ready for a little pop quiz??

Here we go:

Question 1: Do you presume competence?
Question 2: Do you provide alternative methods of communication?
Question 3: Do you teach self-advocacy to all of your clients?
Question 4: Have you ditched compliance-based approaches?
Question 5: Do you use a strengths-based approach?

Okay count 'em up. Did you pass??

If you got a score of 4-5, then your next step is to join the ND Affirming Therapy Academy where you can be surrounded by other therapists that hold the same beliefs as YOU…
